Trump seems to be the only one who ties rolling back coal environmental regulations to creating jobs.
Robert Murray, the founder and CEO of Murray Energy, told the Guardian that during a February visit to the White House to meet President Trump, “I suggested that he temper his expectations. Those are my exact words. He can’t bring them (jobs) back.”
And, the headline in the Roanoke Times on Monday: Trump Breaks a Promise to Coal Country.
The article sites examples of the folks who believed Trump’s promises for a better life and will likely end up far worse. As West Virginia senator, Joe Manchin, once said, coal miners are like Vietnam vets. They gave everything to help the country, and now are looked down upon and given little help. Upon these heros and heroines, Trump descended with platitudes and promises which will be impossible to keep. Regardless of how we think they should have voted, let’s help make sure our legislators know that we don’t want them or their children to suffer at Trump’s hand.

Step 2: Contact your favorite legislator and urge them to support economic development funding in coal country so miners and their families can have good job opportunities.

- Script: “I am (name) from (zip). I read about Trump’s promise to bring back coal jobs by easing regulation, and it’s just not true. We need continued investment in economic development in coal country, so agencies like the Appalachian Regional Commission can continue to re-invent the region and bring prosperity back to those who deserve opportunity. I urge you to support these types of investments.”
