5 Minute Action for Tuesday, 2/28: A Mother Needs Your Help

No matter your view on the immigration order, this is an action we ask you to consider.

Sara Beltran Hernandez, a Salvadorian refugee, came to the United States 15 months ago. She had been sexually abused, suffered domestic violence and was threatened by El Salvador’s notoriously vicious gangs. Sara left her two small children behind in her native country with the hopes of bringing them into the U.S. legally at a later date. She has no known criminal history, and been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

President Trump said that his administration would target the most dangerous undocumented immigrants – “bad hombres” – for deportation. Is Sara a “bad hombre”? Definitively the answer is ‘NO’.

On Wednesday, February 22, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents removed the young mother of two from a hospital where she was being treated for her brain tumor. Despite her frail condition they transferred her to a detention facility where her hands and feet were bound to a wheelchair.

Amnesty International is asking that we “call ICE to demand the release of Sara Beltran Hernandez, a mother who is in need of immediate medical attention, but who is being detained instead.”

5 Minute Action TODAY:

Step 1:  Follow Amnesty’s instructions at the link below. You may get a busy signal, but that’s a good sign that people area calling. Try your call 3 times.

BREATHE AND STEP FORWARD!
