“Defunding Planned Parenthood was a Disaster in Texas. Congress Shouldn’t Do It Nationally”
On Thursday, 2/16, the House passed a resolution that will once again allow states to steer federal family-planning funds away from Planned Parenthood. This is a first step in the anti-choice strategy to defund Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood spends roughly 3% of their funds on abortions, and none of that is federal money. The vast majority of their services are to low-income women for family planning, cancer screening and other essential healthcare services. Concrete evidence exists as to the severe impact of defunding Planned Parenthood, despite GOP lawmakers assurances to the contrary. The headline from a University of Texas Research Project report: “Defunding Planned Parenthood was a Disaster in Texas. Congress Shouldn’t Do It Nationally.”
This resolution will now come up for vote in the Senate. Let your senators know you do not support it!
