We know it’s been a hard week. We need to continue to voice what we believe is right. So, stay strong and ‘persist’!
Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt is about to come up for vote as EPA Administrator. Pruitt has a long record of hostility towards the EPA, is leading the charge to kill the Clean Power Plan in court, and mocks climate science as “speculative guesswork,” all while raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from his friends in the fossil fuel industry.
Then Tuesday, the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD) filed suit in an Oklahoma court, demanding EPA nominee Pruitt release records detailing his communications with energy companies ahead of the as-yet-unscheduled Senate vote. The suit alleges Pruitt has failed to respond to multiple records requests seeking access to more than 3,000 emails with Koch Industries and other coal, oil, and gas corporations, as well as the corporate-funded Republican Attorney General’s Association (RAGA).
In a letter to Congress from nearly 500 former EPA staff, they say Mr. Trump’s decision to appoint Mr Pruitt was “an unprecedented assault on environmental protection, not just on EPA as an agency, but on our country’s ability to enjoy clean air, clean water and a logical agenda on climate change.”
