We are all soooo stressed. Constantly overstimulating the sympathetic nervous system is bad for ALL systems – stressed bodies create more stress! To create consistent grace and ease we must learn to create this within. And, we need more than quiet when a lot going on inside of us.
Thanks to InterPlay, here is our 5 Minute Action for TODAY:
Step 1: 30 second second practice: Take three deep breaths and let them out with an audible sigh one after another. Sigh out loud to move tension out of the lung and heart area. Audible exhales help you know how much you are “holding onto.”
Step 2: 30 second practice: Shake! Your nervous system is supposed to shake when you are anxious. Shake out your hands, arms, legs, and whatever you are you are sitting on. If you do this with others your body starts to feel like it is normal to “let go” and will do so more and more readily.
Step 3: 30 second practice. Twist! Twist from side to side to reset you back into your 3D body. Be well rounded! Twisting relaxes your over-focused brain. You’ll feel less twisted inside if you actually twist.
Step 4: 3 minute practice: What do you do to take your mind off things? One of the most surprisingly direct, fast, and beneficial things is to MOVE in a way that centers you. Turn on a piece of music you love. Even if you can’t do something big, do the movement that brings you joy! Dance with one hand, pretend to swing your golf club or shoot baskets! Think about what you are moving on behalf of – joy, pleasure, love. The brains in your body can move you more quickly to grace than thinking ever will.
