5 Minute Action for Tuesday: Stop the confirmation of Jeff Sessions

The Senate Judiciary Committee is set to meet today on the nomination of Senator Jeff Sessions to become U.S. Attorney General. The Judiciary Committee meeting will start at 10 a.m. ET, and it is believed that Senator Dianne Feinstein (California) will request the vote to be delayed until next week.

We hope that you are able to join MoveOn.org, Wall-Of-Us, and Indivisible to show up in person at your senators office. For more information, see: https://act.moveon.org/event/joinjan24/search/

If not (and even if you can!), here is today’s 5-Minute Action:

Step 1: Call one or more of the Republican senators on the Judiciary Committee.

If you are not living in their state, we believe it’s ok to call if you have any important connection to the state, for example:  family member lives there, you visit and spend money there, organization or other person or entity that is important to you resides there (we know, pretty broad).

Here is a suggested script: “My name is (name) and I am calling to tell Senator (name) that Jeff Sessions’ record on civil rights is an afront to the fundamental principles of our country, and I call on the Senator to vote ‘NO’ on this disgraceful nomination.”

Step 2: If you have friends or family in that state, ask them to make the same call TODAY!

Republican members of the Judiciary Commitee:

Chuck Grassley (Iowa): 202-224-3744

Orinn Hatch (Utah): (202) 224-5251

John Cornyn (Texas): 202-224-2934

Ted Cruz (Texas): (202) 224-5922

Jeff Flake (Arizona): 202-224-4521

Thom Tillis (North Carolina): (202)224-6342

Michael S. Lee (Utah):  202-224-5444

John Kennedy (Louisiana):   202-224-4623

Ben Sasse (Nebraska): 202-224-4224

Mike Crapo (Idaho): (202) 224-6142

Lindsey Graham (South Carolina): (202) 224-5972
